Snake. Is. Back. That's all we have to say to see an instant 97% and cheer of awsomeness. OK, maybe they have to try a little harder, but Snake's last (Or so they say. We highly doubt it.) title is absolutly bloomin' awsome.
Sure, standing completely still might not sound like the most fun thing you can do in a Video Game, but it's definatly the best game on the PS3, and, better yet, one of the best games ever.
The epic storytelling is still great, and the plot is rather good, with very few games beating it. Many said their only complaint was watching the hour and a half-long cut scenes, and while we admit we didn't particualy like that bit, (We're here to play a game, not watch a movie, dammit!) it still showed just what Snake has to go through: Playing a long game.
It launched on TR's birthday, and he couldn't of wished for a better birthday present. (Er, Yes I could. Captain N as a downloadable Character in Smash Bros. with a new Kid Icarus game out, anyone? -TR) The game's near perfect, with every few flaws to trip it up. Actualy, it's more the point that the game IS flawed that makes it so good: There's so many problems starring right at you, and yet Snake's just about managed to blow them away, as if by magic. If C4s are Magic.
Visualy, it's absolutly stunning, the film-style cut scenes and length woiuldn't actualy be out of place in the greatest of thrillers. And when the game eventualy does end, it goes out on a high, with an explosive finale between Snake and his brother, Liquid. We won't say anymore. Play the game yourself.
Like the best games, filsm and TV series, it makes the fans whov'e played Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, 2 and 3 feel espechialy clever for spotting refrences, and the odd unanswered question is tied up, without excluding any new players, unlike a certain Lawyer title.
The catchphrase "Tactical Espionage Action" is almost bang-on, or would be if they added the word "Explosive" before "Espionage" as we originaly recall they did. (But somehow doubt they did.) Thinknig before leaping out and shooting is something not usualy touched apon in modern titles, and spying certainly isn't. Espechialy when your character -Test Tube Lab Creation or not- has taken the leap from Game Character to REAL PERSON and ACTUALY GROWN UP. He's not got grey hair and a moustache, but that doesn't stop him being any less of an awsome here. Infact, it shows that Konaim realy thought about the game. And the lvoe that's gone into it is incredible. You can feel the way the game was made just form reading the credits and reconising old faces from Metal Gear Solid 1 back on the original PlayStation.
Overall, we'd reccomend MGS4 overall. Well, almost. The best Metal Gear game? You betcha. The best game on the PS3? Without a doubt. The single-greatest thing on a Sony console? It might just be...
"Snake? SSSSNNNNNAAAAAKKKKKEEEE!!!!! The original and the best stealth series is back, and it's going out with a bang. It's Showtime."
