Day Seven
The single most spectaclar day in The World Ends With You is Week Three, Day Seven- AKA The final chapter
The moments the words the logo and the striking text saynig "THE LAST DAY" (Filling a whole screen, with 'Last' in red, natch.) popped up, I knew I was in for a delight.
Well, it easily could of been a disapoitning ending, but I was confident Square-Enix wouldn't let me down, and they didn't. Almost every single plothole was filled in, the odd joke was cracked, a few older characters reappeared, and the Conductor's identity was revealed, to an incredibly suprised me. (Although the second they appeared, I thought they might of been...) Infct, the only problem with it was that the 'Secret Ending' you unlock for collecting all the hidden Secret Reports was a bit shallow.
I'm hopnig I don't let YOU down on my last day, mind, with this entery, and even a TWEWY Podcast. And all that's without the streams of TWEWY Music being uploaded the the KN YouTube Channel.
There's a link to the side for the playlist, and as I'm writting this paragraph, four tracks are uploaded, with more on their way. Acompanying these sounds, are the awsome sprites and art produced by Square. The odd sprite sheet, among promo art and things from the opening movie and more: I hope you like it.
That Podcast may come out tommorow morning, (I've got a bit of editing to do. I lost my list of things to mumble about at one point, and now my computer's gonig realy slowly, what with all the uploading to YouTube and saving videos and music, and so on.) but I guess that'll mean there's more overall, over time. But in the first-ever KN Postcast, I'll discuss TWEWY in depth, and have a look to Square's 'Spitirtual Sucessor', Sigma Harmonics, and the future of The World Ends With You.
There, though, I just mentioned Sigma. The game Squeenix are hopping to fill peoples "TWEWY 2!!!" Shaped heart-hole. It's a sort-of Detective based game, with strong music pulls, again. There's a full preview here, but I guess that'll wet your appitite for now.
Back to the ending of TWEWY: The final boss certainly didn't disapoint. While I was glad to finaly see the end of *SPOILER* The Iron Maiden, about half an hour of game-time earlier, *SPOILERS OVER (Ish)* those bosses before hand, (Bar your first fight with Megumi) where somewhat disapointing. To see Jupiter and SE themselves on fine form at the end was top-notch, espechialy after dsisapointing final levels in Final Fantasy XII: Relevent Wings and *Searches memory banks* wait, no, that's their only disapointing ending, and even then it's not too bad.
While the boss was no Ganondorf, the music (Twister-Remix, which unfortunatly isn't on the album I own) set the scene perfectly, showcasing the epic rush of the title's finale. (And not the version on the 'net, I'm on about the version in the game) Neku battlnig for not only his own life, but that of everyone, it was absolutly perfection.
There WILL, however, be an update on this post alongside the Podcast tommorow morning. So long, for now. See you at around 8:30AM (GMT)
Sorry, it's been delayed 'till tommorow, 11th January 2009, but I'll drop a couple of hints on what'll be happening: A bumper post, a video and another suprise...
THE TWEWY BLOG WILL REACH IT'S THRILLING AND EPIC CONCLUSION ON SATURDAY TENTH JANUARY 2009! BE THERE, OR BE SQUARE!
(No? Nobody? Never mind...)
WEEK THREE
Day Six
Is this seriously the second-to-last day of the TWEWY Blog? It's gone so quickly!
Actualy, no it isn't. I had that one day when I lost the text, and I'll be re-writing that tommorow, before the concluding part on Tuesday. *Gulp* The end is in sight...
Basicly: Today I'll be discussing TWEWY Merchindise, somthing of which Square-Enix have done pittifully little. Actualy, to say of the low profile of the game, there's been quite a bit, (If, say, Nintendo had made it, they wouldn't of been having half of it.) but an album, a spechial edition DS (Only realised in japan, in limited quantitys) and a series of tow figures, which sold out about five days before IAW was out, and within about five minutes of hitting shelves.
I've bought the album, and if I see anything with the logo on it, I'll buy it. Easy as that. I'm keeping an eye out for the Prima Guide, as that's the only thing avalible in the UK at the current time.
Hurry up and get realising, Square!
WEEK THREE
Day Five
I havn't updated since 1/1/09. It's now the third. Oh. I missed a day. Never mind, it wa shectic yesterday: i got nothing done at all, pretty much. Long story. One day I might explain.
Right now, I'm not realy I'm in a TWEWY Mood, (I've just written what feels like eight thousand articles on The Eleventh Doctor himself, Matt Smith.) but I'll write anyway.
Neku's headphones are there for a reason. Because the music in TWEWY is awsome. On Monday, I may even update this page to have some TWEWY music insted of the same old images and intro movie video I've had for over three weeks now.
My personal favorates are Twister and Three Minutes Clapping, but I also like Transformation, Deja Vu, Long Dream, and many more. Infact, there's only one I don't like it's the one with the weird name. Owjama Harma, or somthing.
I even got the album. See the next post for more on that. For now, bye bye.
WEEK THREE
Day Four
Happy New Year, everyone! It's officialy 2009!! Yesterday, (New Year's Eve), I bought the last game I would in '08: Flowers, Sun and Rain. It was kinda a disapointment to round off such an awsome year, as the game is stupidly hard, and not in the 'Lacking in skill' department.
It was in my DS. I'd been playing it, then we had thoughs end-of-year traditions, and midway through them, I realised somthing: that logical Suda game that was actualy creepy, in a non-scary way, was going to be the last game I played that year!
I charged upstairs and grabbed the box of The World Ends With You, which I have propped above all of my other DS game cases, along with the album. (I'll mention that tommorow, actualy) I wrestled the cartridge out of the box, and then quickly quited, saved and so oned on FSR. All the time looking at my watch alternate seconds. I had seven minutes. Sound familer? I was going to make TWEWY the last game I played in 2008, no matter what.
I quickly ejected the cart, staretd it up, and began a chain battle. I foolishly did a six-chain reduction. I had a look at the time on the DS. I had four minutes, and had to be outside by 11:58. (A Family tradition. I sat there for two minutes, freezing cold, in a T-Shirt, holding a lump of bread. Long story.) Took me two minutes to of the first four. (I was on Ultimate difficulty). But, then I realised I had to be outside. (Well, I actualy realised because the whole family was nagging at me.)
Folding the DS up, I realised my mission was accomplished. A copy of Fallout 3 and an Xbox 360 where hardly going to fall out of the sky now, where they...?
But they did, and I completed the game in one minute flat.
OK, just kidding. It was TWEWY that 'Won'. I then continued the battle about 45 minutes later. So TWEWY was also the FIRST game I played the this year! A year that will, hopefully, be even better.
See you tommorow, dudes! Er, or somthing. Here's to 2009!
WEEK THREE
Day Three
OK, OK, I'll try and re-write that missing article tommorow. But for now, you'll have to make do with me ranting on about something other than TWEWY's promotion in media.
I'll talk about the sales.
It may seem mad, doing a new update every single day for three weeks on this one obscure game, but part fo the reason is that next to nobody bought it. OK, it's sold well in Japan, just because of it's Kingdom Hearts background, and it was the Top-Sellnig DS game in it's week of realise in America, but I'd be suprised if mnore than eleven people in the United Kingdom own a copy, heck, I'd say only about three people in the rest of Germany own it.
This not only makes the future of TWEWY a problem, (Which is, in turn, a problem it's self. See Day 2-7.) but makes colelcting all the pnis a problem. See, there ared four difrent sorts of TWEWY Cart, which alter the pins you can recive on them, and how common they are. So, for example, on Type A Mr. H will sell you Dark Mercury and Dark Jupiter in WildKatt, but on Type B, he'll only give you Dark Saturn and Dark Pluto. This makes it a pain because of the sheer lack of copies sold, and the sheer ambition of the system.
I'm sorry for leaving it mid-update. I finished it eventualy, though. My computer had crashed, and when I recovered it, I'd forgotten TWEWY. I saved it, though.
WEEK THREE
Day Two
I'll express my love for Mr. Mew right here and right now.
See that cat/piggy Shiki's holding on the picture right of this text? That's the single-greatest thing Square's ever done. Well, bar the whole TWEWY expreience, but meh.
It sums up the game perfectly, blah blah bla... I won't go over that stuff again. I'll just say how perfectly designed to be a 'Cute' character they are, and that the idea they move on their own (And it's next explained how or why) is nice. ("What if he's waiting to pork chop us ni the back of the neck?")
They also bring up some of the best lines, even though in a Gromit-like touch, they can't talk. "That stuffed piggy?" "He's a CAT!", ect.
But: Basicly: Mr. Mew is BRILLIANT. No wonder Square use him so much when promoting TWEWY, which they do so rarley... (Ironicly, that was the subject of yesterday's lost entery. If I can't find it by midday tommorow, I'll re-write it.)
WEEK THREE
Day One
Stupid Servers. I wrote something for this day, but it all crashed and so I'm unable to acess it now. Sorry. I'll add something, say, tommorow? You'll have to make do with just one update today. Sorry.
WEEK TWO
Day Seven
Phew. Teh end of my seocnd week. I very almost missed it today. Only updated the homepage for the challenges saved me. Which reminded em exatcly what I can going to dedicate today's blog to...
I badly everyone got thrased in our TWEWY Tournement
I thought somebody might be able to manage the Boss Rush and psot a time. But noooo. Nobody even tried. Well, they did, (Di The Fox failed the Boss Rush in genneral. Grancko couldn't touch my time. The only person who could beat it didn't sign up no KN, and therefor couldn't win.) but surely you can try some harder?
But, I supsoe, TWEWY isn't meant for competitive gaming. Why else woluld Square pretty much leave out multi-player. OK, there's a shop-based system where you cna trade items for Yen, and there's a little pannel on your phone which allows you to play Tin Pin with a friend standing right by you, but... That's it. Wi-Fi Pin Trading & Battlnig would be excelent. But nope. Square-Enix and Jupiter must fo left it out for a reason.
I'll probaly never know why, (Unless I suddenly submit one of their questions to the Dev interview thing on the Squeenix website, and they magicly answer it. Doubtfull.) but if they make a sequal more Mutli-Player stuff would be a dream come true.
I'd have a mode where one player plays as, erm, a Player, and the other a Reaper. Thnig Neku & Beat's showdown with Uzuki and Kariya for this. Or maybe you could finaly find out who'd win in a fight: Neku and Joshua or Beat and Rhyme? Oh, the possibilties are endless. It's also be nice to have some NPCs (That's Non-Playable Characters) shoved in there, too, so perhaps we could take control of Sota & Nao-Nao as they fight, say, Player versions of Shooter & Yammer?
Actualy, this is getting awsomer and awsomer. You should also be able to customise them properly, so if you give, for example, Joshua Mr. Mew, then he'd actualy have the little pig, er, I mean cat watching his back as he blasts the noise/Reapers/players to high heaven.
Forming new pacts would be fun, too, and maybe even using a couple of shop keepers and stuff? So how about Shiki and her from the top floor of 104? (Wow, I'm sooo a poet!) And they take on Nao and "Nekky"? I'm so excited, I'm going to be awake all night thinknig about this.
But for now, it's just a dream, (Or not, as that would ruin my idea of not sleeping.) but one I'd like to see come real. Everyoen reading this, make sure Square Enix and Jupiter read this. And pronto.
But two weeks down now, eh? I've only got seven mroe fo these posts to go, and maybe I'll add "Another Day". I'm getting mroe and mroe lazy, and taknig these for granted. perhaps I'll be doing a Neku-Rhyme "Live A Little More, for their sake" thing.
Oh, I dunno.
WEEK TWO
Day Six
A day off for Christmas? How realiving is that? Phew. I'm suprised it's been two weeks today since I started, and it's already at this point. And I've only missed one day. Or that I have missed one day. Hmm.
Anyway, I'm digging out the oldest, msot obscure article I cna find to save me time to batter my way through Sonic Unleashed and re-watch that new Doctor Who episode. And Walace & Gromit.
My original first entery for the TWEWY Blog! Back when the KN Site was gonig to have a totaly difrent balck design! Yeah!
"Well, The World Ends With You, eh? My sheer amount of play time on it (Modern Note: Then I was at about 19 Hours.) and the fact that it covers a “Week by week” basis means that I’ve been requested/force to write a thing on it for. So that’s that cleared up. Here begins my TWEWY blog, then…
Trying to get every pin is difficult, no matter master ‘em all! Just so you know, the game doesn’t messure the “Pin Count” in how many you have, but how many you’ve made reach there ultimate level. That’s like a Pokemon game that instead of making you catch ‘em all,"
Heh. Unfinished. Yes, I elft that comma there and din't even edit once, bar my little bit in brackets. Hey, I'm tired, and it's midday, Boxing Day. You still got na update. Happy now?
WEEK TWO
Day Five
After Stu's article yesterday, I'm back. Sorry to disapoint you, but you'll just have to make do for now.
Anyway! It's Christmas! Well, Christmas Eve. There'll be no update tommorow, natch, but today I'll explore the Christmas element of TWEWY.
Now, you're probaly thinknig "Eh?" and, actualy, so am I. But as person who's just written, recorded and edited an entire CD of songs being sung by a somewhat chubby Welsh Hedgehog, I'm not exactly sane right now.
The obvious things are the Mr./Mrs. Claus outfits that you can unlock after beating the game, and the story of Shiki & Eri sewing & designing them, and wearing them to a Christmas party, but I'm gonna find some more obscure things.
The World Ends With You was mainly translated over Christmas '07. FACT. Square only decided they'd bring it worldwide for sure in November, and then that was the time it began. It was realsied in April. There's the publishnig stuff, which will of taken over a month. So it had to be done over Christmas.
Other Random TWEWY-Christmas weak links:
-The words 'Ho Ho Ho' are said by Beat.
-I'd love to find a Mr. Mew in my stocking.
-My original plan of our unveilnigs of Our Top #20 Games Of The year would have had TWEWY's Position announced on Christmas Day. I scrapped it all, I did.
-IGN reccomended it as the #10th best handheld thing to ask for when your Gran goes out Christmas Shopping.
-There's a grey sweater as an item. And we all know that link...
-Play.com (Much as I loath them) have TWEWY in their Christmas Sale.
-GameSpot has a topic on "Should I get TWEWY For Christmas?" (Hint: YES.)
-Err... I'm typnig this on Christmas Eve?
OK, well, I roughly managed it. 12 Links! If that isn't amazing, I don't know what is. Even though I do.
WEEK TWO
Day Four
Apollogies, but I'm not actualy writting an article myself today. Insted, you'll have to make do with/thank the lord for a TWEWY article BY SOMEONE ELSE. That someone is Stu The Great. There's a link at the bottom of this paragraph, but this article of his has realy helped me, as It's Christmas and I've got to get Blastoise, Pichu and mroe finished quick.
Cheers, Stu. Link here
WEEK TWO
Day Three
I saw something earlier today. It was a 'Comedy' piece on how to make your own Square-Enix set of characters, basicly meaning draw a over-empthesised Woman and then change the hair style to stick out if you're making it a man, and 'grow' the hair for a girl, whist also shortening the skirt from the template. Villians are the female heroes, but with no hair clips or braclets.
Well, true enough for Final Fantasy 1-11 (Not 12, mind) but TWEWY is an entirely difrent kettle of fish. Or, more to the point, bowl of noodles.
Before the game came out, the main sellnig ponits where "Amazing Dual Screen Battle System!" and "Characters all designed by him who did Kingdom Hearts, but the designs are more modern!" And TWEWY is just that. Only more, but y' know what I mean.
The character design is superb. You can tell Beat's one of those typical 'Gangster' characters, and you can belive all that's said just through the emotions on those still images of this face. His character is genuinly a real sort of person: Not something common in RPGs.
Shiki's also the sort of person that you might come across in the street. A young girl, who while she appears to be friendly on the outside, harbours a dark secret on this inside. She's talented, and yet very 'Normal'. Rhyme's entery fees and other spoilery reasons (i.e.: She dies near the begining of the game) the like mean she can't be resembled much, but the look is spot-on, for what we discover she was later on in the game.
Sho looks like a thug. The sort who'd steal you wallet, or maybe worse. (Well done, Another Day Neku.) Not the sort who's utterly obessive about numeracy. But I'll let Square slide. Afterall, a bloke with glasses, a white shirt with straps pulled over shoulders and so on being so utterly amazing wouldn't work. So good job Square on merging diffrent sorts of people. Zetta cool indeed.
But I'd say the two true mastermworks on show within TWEWY are Mr. Hanekoma and Mr. Mew. Mr. mew, that cat/pig thing, is a genius creation. Many of the funniest lines come from Neku talking about him, and their cute, and powerful, and everything in one.
Mr. H is another spot-on character design. We all know a café owner that looks like him, right? And then I just, genneraly, think that he looks the part. I would describe more, but I won't. You either get me or you don't.
Anyway, I'd like to see some comments on the KN Forum (Either the discuss the blog topic, or the Discuss The World Ends With You thread) on your favorate designs. Three cheers for my first 'Handing it over' blog ending!!
WEEK TWO
Day Two
The World Ends With You is a catchy title, eh? I'd say it's one of this year's best names. Sure, it sounds like a James Bond film, but that's nothing to be ashamed of. Unless it was a reminded of The Quantum of Solice. Then it'd be a catostraphy.
Anyway: Today I'm gonig to talk about the name. Was that what put people off? Is that the reason that it sold badly? I doubt it. Afterall, how sucessufll is 007? I've seen comments that say it sounds like a sloppy love film, but then what would it eb like if it where still known as "It's a Wonderful World"?
That title actualy makes sense, mind, as even if it bears no resembelance to Louis Armstrong record, or the ye olde movie, (Which I hadn't heard of until researching this post.) but it does seem a fair bit like brilliant movie, It's A Wonderful Life.
IAW Life: George Baily is driven to sucicide through what he's done wrong in lfie, and is shown the light and changes it when he is shown his impact on the world. He realises things he otherwise would of gone on ignoring, and begins to apprechiate how good lfie is.
IAW World: Neku Sakuraba has died and is placed in a 'Game' run by The Reapers and their mysterious leader, The Conductor. Not a 'Social Creature' hismelf, The Reaper's Game forces Neku to form pacts with other players, and expand his world, picknig up on things he otherwise would of gone on ignoring, and he apprechiates how wonderfull the world is.
The name could of been a clue. But simplifying the plot of The World Ends With You to that was hard. That's the essence, but that's like describing a rollercoaster by just sitting in the carrage. It's not untill you get yourself going that the ride begins.
But all the same. It's one of the best names of a game, and it sounds like a film. Yay? That was probaly the most insignificant post ever amde on this blog. Meh.
WEEK TWO
Day One
Hmm. Week Two. Time to switch partner. But! No time! It's Christmas! I have to run through Christmas week? Hmm. Fair enough.
TWEWY is now becoming a cult hit, and more and more attention. It's kinda slowly drippnig into people's minds, and hopefully it'll be cheap, and people will buy it, come the January Sales. Again refuring to 1-6, but Steve's quest of renewal had hi find the game for £19.99. Not bad. The main problem is finding a copy. The only place where I can are GAME and HMV. Asda, Tesco, heck, even GameStation are totaly out. With any luck, sales will soar and a sequal will be made, and realised in Spring 2010. Hopefully not late 2009, (It'll be ignored) and hopefully not just that time in Japan, meaning we'll have to wait for late 2010/early 2011 for it, by which time I wouldn't be suprised if the DS' sucessor is with us.
Mind you, how long did NiGHTS fans have to wait for a sequal? And don't get me started on Shenmue. Or Kid Icarus. Maybe we may not get a sequal to TWEWY, and while I'll be dissapointed, it'll give me something to live for. The day Square say it's in development is the day I suddenly explode.
There's plenty of poential for a sequal, ranging from another version of The Reaper's Game, with diffrent rules, to one following Neku's life after the end of the original. And if the Credit Crunch hits Square-Enix and we have to watch them revert back to casual titles, maybe "Coffee Skills with S. Hanekoma" would be better than nothing. (They could also take on Skate/Tony Hawk with a game based around Beat)
Basicly: SQUARE-ENIX AND JUPITER. MAKE A SEQUAL TO THE WORLD ENDS WITH YOU. PRONTO.
WEEK ONE
Day Seven
Would you belive that I've already been doing these daily blogs for a week? I would, but that's only because it been pretty stressful pullnig them together whilst being ill, festive and in detention. (Actualy, I managed to pass off that last one, as my English Teacher didn't mind me donig this, and gave me bonus marks on a test for it. Phew.) The reaction's been pretty good, with comments such as "How are you going to go on about TWEWY for 21 Days? Espechialy if their all this length. " and "Thx for warning. ".
Actualy, that "Other Forum" I mentioned has had an even better reaction, with people actualy recconising the story. "That made me laugh out loud. Good stuff indeed." offers LikeLike himself, while Steve says "That was brilliant, Cybermaster! Despite being mentioned myself, I laughed hardest at the Double 'L' parody"
The best comment was "Damn, Apollo Fire...that is catchy. Now to try and play a little more of TWEWY..." from the man himself. TWEWY is awsome, so good on you, ApolloFire.
Well, anyway, this is turning into mroe of a blog on the blog, than a blog on TWEWY, so I'll mention what I was going to on Day 1-5, and mention the Editor's Games Of The Year, in which I placed The World Ends With You at Number One from myself.
I metioned that it could be joint with Smash Bros. Brawl, but equaly that could be a lie. It definatly deserves mroe credit then it gets, and so Number 12 in Official Nintendo magazine's countdown, and nowhere to be seen in EDGE's is a bit annoying, but then seeing it win IGN awarding it Best DS Gamewas brilliant, and you can rest assured that KN will deliver the goods and it will be gettnig a higher position then most people havegiven it in Our GOTY countdown. Don't worry, it won't get TOO crazy, and I'm fully aware that after our controversal (N4G set up a thread on flaming us for it.) Number #20, Grand Theft Auto IV very few will trust our Countdown judgement, and by giving TWEWY what it deserves, we'll set up another argument on a totaly sperate site. Well, that's what reviews are for...
WEEK ONE
Day Six
Another forum I visit has recently seen an influx of players returning to old copies of TWEWY they left on a shelf, or buying new ones after they traded them in.
I won't name names, but for now I'll call them "Steve The Almighty", "LikeLike" and "ApolloFire". Steve traded in his copy of TWEWY long ago, but contiuned to watch many fans of the game play it and discus it on he appropriate thread. The constant streams of TWEWY love/utterly bonkers and unhealthy obsession had him go abck on his mistakes and buy a new copy, which they now appear to be throughly enjoying. That's the effect of TWEWY, people.
Entry 1-4 mentioned how not everyone'll 'Get' The World Ends With You, but they deserve to, as when they crack the Z-Class Code (Sho refrence, there.) they'll find one of the best games this year. Infact, the Editor's Games Of The Year is out today, and so tommorow I'll discuss my positioning of TWEWY in the list, but not untill then. Maybe it might be the day after. I dunno. But anyway: Steve's currently playing TWEWY, and he's finaly cracked, as I called it, The Z-Class Code.
LikeLike on the other hand is a horder. He's got four copies of every DS game, one to keep in mint condition then sell, one to keep in mint condition then keep in a small box, and then another to play, and one to pin up on the wall and stare at. He, however, only bought one copy of TWEWY, and that was the mint condition to sell later.
But Steve having replayed it's lead Double L to pick up that game, and -In a moment of madness for him, sanity for everyone else- yell "SCREW MY RULES!" opening the game, and playing through to Shiki Day Five. Again, another one who's enjoying themself. He wonders why he's done this, and in the spirit of fun, declares to only buy one copy of every game from now on. Except Prof. Layton. That he'll take every copy he finds so that someone such as your faithfull blogger here can't get one.
ApolloFire (That's actualy a realy catchy name.) decides to take a pop at LikeLike, but realises he's hardly touched his copy of TWEWY either. He decided it's time to redeem themselves.
Well, no doubt that's where their headed, if only because this certain one I'm asbout to anme and shame, because they havn't yet said so. Have they, PheonixAsh?
WEEK ONE
Day Five
Hmmm... Today, I'd say it's time for somethnig diffrent. I'm looknig back at TWEWY right now, so how about I dig up a couple of old things? First up, an article written for the KN IGN Blog on May 20th 2008. Here it is...
"Funny, it only took 19 diffrent shops for us to find a single copy of The World Ends With You. Hang on, shouldn't it only be one or two? Well that's the way it should be. But, unfortuantly, Square-Enix didn't get the bill.
Our very own TR spent a couple of months trying to track down the said game- Eventualy, 19 shops later, he's found a copy. We would blame Square for it, if they hadn't just gone and produced such a damn awsome game.
The World Ends With You is easily one of the most intuitive RPG's of recent years, and, amazingly, the best. Not one of, the best. Full stop. (Or "period" since most of IGN is american) That's it.
If we've stopped playing it and haven't yet completed it by next year, we'd be amazed- It's that good.
Quite simply, any game that we've played for five hours straight with only one break for the toilet (Even then, we had the game sitting infront of us, moving with the stylus between our toes) is awsome, espechialy on a handheld.
We can only say one thing: Buy it or your missing out on a high contender for Game Of The Year..."
There you go. Intresting, that. I don't recall collectivly sitting on the toilet and shoving plastic pens inbetween my pieds. Instresting. Tommorow we'll have another "Proper" update, and then a first entery I wrote for this while still playing TWEWY will come up later. But, as a certain skater would say, le's bounce.
WEEK ONE
Day Four
I'm very ill right now. And yet, out of some stroke of randomness, here I am, writitng the TWEWY blog. Is this the appeal of TWEWY to me? Could well be.
Of course, it might of not been. Some poeple just couldn't get into TWEWY, and others shouldn't. I know I've said in past everyone should buy it, but KnightGhost's post on our Forums about buying it for her son brought this to my attention. TWEWY is, while entirely impossible, an amazingly precise recreation of how things happen these days, and gives an insite to Japanese teenages, at least. This may sound like total madness, and that's because it is.
TWEWY is madness. Period. When I first heard of the game, I passed it by. Hardly giving it any thought, that odd little title Square where knocknig up under the name of It's A Wonderful World was going to be weird. Yup, that was pretty much the only way I could put it. Yet, here I am, writing this. It's also utterly brilliant, and anyone over the age or 10 or 11 should play it. It's not a "Kid's Game" (But then, Play.com, neither is Mario.) but espechialy in the days of darkening for it's audience on the Nintendo DS, it's good that Square's still making some of the best games in the world. Afterall, Madness is good.
WEEK ONE
Day Three
I noticed something while playing this very morning. The Q-Floor in the background of the Scramble Crossing not only appears in battles, but whatevers on it changes according to whatever brand is current popular in that area.
I realised a month or so ago that it also effects what the sprite-people in the areas are wearing. The system is a tinsy bit fidely, but it works like a charm, and while I personaly rarley actualy change the trend in a videogame, (I only tend to do it in real life) it's a neat little system that works very well.
It's not the first idea that would pop into my head if I was making a modern-day RPG, but that only makes Square seem even mroe like geniuses.
You probaly have no idea what I'm talknig about if you havn't played the game yet. In which case, waht are you waiting for? BUY IT ALREADY. This was actualy one of the main aspects that was used for promotions, weirdly, as besides opening about four "Walls" in the main game, it's not used. Although it does allow you to earn more PP and speed things up.
WEEK ONE
Day Two
Replaying TWEWY, right from the begining, right through to the end, I'm left wondering something: Is it alright to be doing this?
Typicaly, Square-Enix have made RPGs. Typicaly, RPGs have had little replay value. Typicaly, Square have attempted to counter this. Typicaly, Square have largley failed. So the afct that I'm hopelessly addicted to TWEWY to an extent that I'm replaying the game for the fourth time, having also spent ages collecting secret reports, leveling up Neku, Shiki and crew, and raising ym drop rate, not to mention finding all the extras that Square hid away. Oh, and I'm on a quest to master every pin. Forget "Catch 'Em All". I'm out to "Collect, Wear And Train 'em All".
See, it seems -Well- wrong for an RPG to have this much replay value, and the game isn't exactly short to begin with, being longer than Zelda: Phantom Hourglass, New Super Mario Bros., and most of Nintendo's output on the DS. (I think Metroid Prime Hunters is longer, but I'm yet to polish that off, so it may or may not be an exception.) I recall reading a post on another gaming forum (That may or may not be the spammy one of a certain Nintendo Magazine with an editor departing this month *Cough*) that "The only real problem I've encountered [With TWEWY] is replay value" I'd say it's actualy it's strong suit, and if I where to re-write my review again now, I'd most certainly mention it.
The fact that this blog has got as far as it has, (The game had been out for eight months two days ago.) and has even been created at all, is a testiment to Square. And I also promise this is the last entery on Replay Value. It's amazingly good, mind, and so long as you 'Get' TWEWY, you'll have an utter ball.
WEEK ONE
Day One
Doctors should, officialy, class The World Ends With You as a drug. Durring the times I infamously got "Locked Away In A Cuboard", that DS game cart was the only thing that kept me sane. (Actualy, Mr. Wright did his bit, too.) Often RPGs offer hours upon hours of play, with epic, sweepnig soundtracks and superb stories, but then little replay value when the main quest is done. The World Ends With You is diffrent. While some people see very little replay value in it, the fact I've spent 250+ Hours on the game (And I'm writting this in mid-November, due to make sure it doesn't clash with other bits and bobs in my busy KN schedual for the next few weeks. I don't want to know how big my "Time Played..." counter will be when I've finished) just shows how well Square designed it.
Well, that's all for today. Basicly, I'll be back tommorow with another update on this here blog. I've started a fourth run-though the whole game, and I'll mention about that. Bye bye!
Use the force, young Neku.
Our resident TWEWY expert/extreme fan, TR, (Who also happens to be OUR Composer. *Gulp*) is the proud writer of the daily blog. He actualy thinks he can make it 3 weeks without missing a day, bar Christmas. LOL.
The Mysterious Conductor! And the mysterious Joshua! And even Neku's a mystery, actualy.
